Watching the implosion of Tony Fauci last week was equal parts cathartic and frustrating.
It’s always nice to see a karmic butt-kicking administered to a bad guy who had appeared to get away with his bad actions, only to be found out and humiliated. And after the revelations of his self-incriminating diary musings, we know for certain that his exposure has to be tormenting him.
Because his own words show how much of a narcissist he is! And nothing is more painful for a narcissist than being ridiculed and taken down a few dozen pegs. The height that Fauci fell from – being celebrated as a national hero, having his own bobble-head dolls and votive candles, and all the rest – had to be dizzying, as he landed, like Milton’s Lucifer, in what must have felt to him like a lake of fire.
Except that the heat was only from the public spotlight, setting fire to his once-vaunted reputation. And what Thomas More said of Lucifer surely applies to Fauci too: “the proud spirit cannot endure to be mocked.” Like when you ask the proud spirit the color of his tie, or of the carpet in front of him, and he’s reduced to muttering, “On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer…”
The left is always lambasting Trump for his Trump-sized ego. And sure, fact check: true. But Fauci’s obsessive chronicling of every bit of praise that was heaped on him by the MSM and sycophantic lefty celebrities makes Trump look like a self-effacing, mild mannered, shrinking violet.
Fauci was almost 80 years old when he wrote most of the entries, and yet it would be a really cruel insult to shallow pre-teen girls to mention how much he sounded like a shallow pre-teen girl.
“Dear Diary, Julie Roberts thinks I’m hot! I talked to her for ten minutes, and I could almost see floating cartoon hearts coming out of her eyes the whole time. I had Time magazine eating out of the palm of my hand, and when I asked the photographer for In Style magazine – they put me on the cover! – whether my white coat and stethoscope made my butt look big, she assured me that she would play doctor with me anytime. I guess I’m the most famous-est person in the world!”
The frustrating part is that Fauci won’t be held totally accountable. Being held in contempt by Congress is the worst he’ll get, when a jail sentence is more than warranted. And it’s also frustrating to see the Dems continuing to cover for him, as they did during the hearing, and on their media.
Although I do see some punishment in that for them, too. As I mentioned in my columns on the happiness gap, constantly fighting against the truth is a huge calorie burner, and it makes people very unhappy. If seeing and saying the truth is like walking with the wind at your back, then the Dems have to feel like they’re constantly bent forward, their eyes on the ground as they struggle to move into the teeth of a howling nor’easter.
They’ve got to insist that men can be women, and that the flight of productive citizens from tax-hungry blue states to red states isn’t happening, and that illegals never vote. For four grim years they had to stare into a mirror and rehearse saying things like, “Joe Biden is sharp as a tack. The border is secure. Hunter’s laptop is Russian disinformation,” until they could recite them with a dead-eyed, straight face.
Most exhausting of all is that they have to reflexively take the opposite position of Trump, no matter what he is saying at the moment, even when their instincts – and every shred of common sense they have left – are telling them that he’s right.
When he says that Kaitlan Collins looks like Dylan Mulvaney, they are red-faced with fury…but they can’t tell the truth about why. Because they’ve been lying for years that Dylan is a beautiful young lady, so comparing Collins to him – sorry, “her” – would be a compliment.
Which it obviously isn’t. Because Dylan is a dude, and they’ve been lying through their teeth about that.
Similarly, when Trump called Haiti a sh*thole country in 2018, the Dems had to insist that no, it was a paradise on earth. They were all suddenly looking at buying a vacation home in Port au Prince, where it definitely was NOT true that the leading causes of death were “machete-related murder,” “diseases the US wiped out a century ago,” and “despair.”
Hilariously enough, some leftist celebrities (Conan O’Brien, Susan Sarandon, and Bill Maher among them) even went so far as to buy and pose in shirts with the slogan “Haiti Is Great Already.” (And you know that right now, they’ve got to be as embarrassed about that as Fauci is about his choosing to write his diary on a government-owned computer.)
And now that Trump is ending TPS and wants to send Haitians back to Haiti, the leftists are gnashing their teeth and rending their garments, choking on the words you know they are just dying to say: “You can’t send them back! Haiti is a sh*thole!”
(Imbecilic RINO Ohio Governor DeWhine said it for them: “Haiti is literally hell. We can’t send them back to hell.”)
Speaking of Bill Maher, he’s a frustrating guy to follow, because he regularly hammers the left on many issues they deserve to be hammered on, and yet cannot bring himself to leave them. He did, after all, wear that idiotic Haiti shirt, and he lambastes Trump for being an “election denier” even as he (Maher) is in denial about the fact that that Hillary and most other Dems have also denied the legitimacy of elections they lost.
But even Maher might be getting close to his breaking point, as evidenced by his monologue over the weekend in which he attacked the Dems for allowing the terrible DSA commies to take over their party. In a rant that ended in him saying, “I would rather vote for Sarah Palin than this sh*t!” he cited an open pledge by two moderate Democrat congressmen (Tom Suozzi of NY and Adam Gray of CA), which I’d missed.
The pledge states, “We are capitalist, not socialist. We want safety, not lawlessness. We are proud, not ashamed of America.”
Maher sarcastically remarked, “These should not be hard words for a congressional Democrat to sign on to.” But then he followed with the damning closer: only 8 out of the 212 Dems in congress signed onto the pledge!
Which means that an easy lay-up of a talking point that was supposed to reassure normal citizens that it is safe to vote for Democrats in the midterms did just the opposite!
Maher quoted the insane words of the most influential DSA supporters, as well as the DSA platform itself. They want to “literally abolish the border,” along with “replac[ing] the President and SCOTUS with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress.” He also quotes Francesca Hong – leading Dem candidate for WI governor, who has joined forces with Crazy Mazie Horono to disprove the stereotype that Asians are smart – who has doubled down on her intention to abolish both prisons and the police.
So the left now has added another load blatant lies to defend: if there were no prisons or police, there would be no crime; the best way to defend the Constitution is to throw out 2 of the 3 branches of government created by the Constitution; having no border would strengthen our country.
All snarking aside, I really do hope that normie Dems (however many there are left) can regain control of their party, because it is obviously not good for one of the two major parties to be controlled by America-hating socialist/communist extremists!
Even if it’s better for conservatives in the short run for Dems to nominate DSA candidates, since that should result in our winning more congressional seats, I don’t think it’s worth the risk. Because the scary truth is that there is growing support for communist candidates, and many of them will win elections, especially in blue states.
I feel for my lefty friends, because the rise of the DSA is only going to make their lives even harder, and increase their unhappiness. Life is too short to spend so much of your energy persuading yourself that lies are true, or pretending to believe them and then repeating them in service of some “greater good.”
The way that Fauci did, when he claimed that the six-foot rule was science, and that the vaccine and masks would prevent you from getting the virus, for example. Going down that road isn’t good for your soul or your mental state, especially when compared to the relief you’ll feel if you can put that burden down and start walking with the wind at your back again.
Or, as a much more eloquent Man said, “The Truth will set you free.”
