The burden of being a leftist politician or activist is heavy, because it involves the necessity of never telling more than a partial truth – if even that much – about any incident you are using to try to support your causes.
For example, every heart-tugging story you tell about someone from one of your preferred victim classes has to be a hagiography, and a “just-so” story, whether it’s about a gay victim of homophobia, or a trans victim of transphobia, or a Muslim victim of Islamophobia, or a spider victim of arachnophobia.
Okay, I got carried away on that last example. But you get my point.
Matthew Shepard was a young gay man found murdered and tied to a fence in rural Wyoming in 1998, and the left turned him into a cause celebre, an innocent martyr murdered by two homophobes because of his sexuality. Annnndddd… it turned out that Shepard was a meth dealer, and his killers were gay lovers of his, who killed him over a drug deal gone wrong.
Still sad, still terrible. But not the lie that it was sold as.
Michael Brown was similarly mythologized, turned into a gentle giant who was minding his own business in Ferguson Missouri when a racist white cop killed him by shooting him in the back, and also shooting him when Brown had raised his hands and said, “Don’t shoot.” The case became famous, leading to nationwide “Hands up, don’t shoot” protests, and the founding of Black Lives Matter. (And also to the deaths of unknown numbers of black people, due to the ensuing “Ferguson Effect.”)
Annnndddd…it turned out that Brown had committed a strong-arm robbery of a tiny Indian man in a convenience store shortly before his encounter with the police. During that encounter, he was not shot in the back, and he never had his hands raised. Instead, he charged the cop, attacking him while he was inside his squad car, and fought to get the cop’s gun before he was killed in self-defense. (Brown’s DNA was found on the car door, inside the car, on Wilson’s gun and on his clothes.)
These kinds of stories are effective at stirring up national unrest, and they are very persuasive…but only to those who are already blindly on the myth-maker’s side, and thus willing to stop listening or looking at any actual evidence beyond the initial dishonest story.
But for the rest of us, who have a desire for truth, facts and evidence, these stories undermine the credibility of the propagandists who tell them, and the causes they are trying to support.
Two more perfect examples of this phenomenon happened in the last week, one in Gary, Indiana, and the other in New Mexico. The story in Gary involves a long period of the town being without power earlier this month, and the story in New Mexico involves ICE ruthlessly arrested a father and family man.
Gary Indiana is a mostly black city on the other side of the Indiana border from Chicago, and has been economically depressed for a long time. Over this past weekend, Gary had been out of power for 11 days, and a lot of the black community was up in arms, blaming general racism and also environmental racism. An X user calling himself “Black Jesus” (I’m hoping he’s not a typical resident, but he was certainly pushing the narrative that was common in town) wrote this: “gary Indiana has been w/o power for 11 days. Gary Indiana is 75% black. Yet another example of environmental racism, it is so f***ing disgusting.”
The people pushing this BS don’t realize how much they’ve already pre-destroyed their own credibility. You know that they wanted people to hear this story or read this tweet, and say, “That’s right! Just one more case of a racist white power structure in racist Amerikka not caring about the suffering of black people!” And then start spreading the story, without spending one more moment actually looking into what happened.
But you are already thinking what any sentient biped who has been living in our society for longer than a week is thinking: Come on, man! What is the rest of the story? Why was the power out in the first place, and why hasn’t it been turned back on? And don’t tell me it’s because Nathan Bedford Forrest owns the local electric company!
Annnnddddd…it took about 5 minutes after Black Jesus delivered his sermon about the white devils for a community note to knock down his racist fantasy: “The power outage was caused by severe storms on 8/11/26, affecting northwest Indiana and northeast Illinois. Restoration in Gary was further delayed after utility crews were shot at on 8/14, temporarily pausing work.”
In a healthy, well-functioning community, the residents would be outraged that some moron would shoot at the utility crews who were trying to help them. Many people in a town that size had to know who the shooter was, and if Gary wasn’t broken, they would have turned him over to the cops, possibly after delivering an educational beating to him first. But not in a leftist-run town, where the Narrative™ must be maintained.
And there you have it. There were two causes of Gary’s extended power outage: the primary cause was a natural phenomenon (the storm) which affected people of all races in the area, and the secondary cause was a criminal action by some local jackass who (by demographic and crime stats) was almost certainly black.
In addition to the community note, many comments were left by former black residents who had moved away from Gary because of the high crime rate and social deterioration, enabled and accelerated by years of horrifically incompetent governance by its all-black, all-Democrat political power structure.
Oh, did I not mention that? Yes, the mayor, the entire city council and the CEO of the electric company are all black. So if Black Jesus is right and racism is the problem, those black KKK members have got to go!
Meanwhile, in New Mexico, a crooked Democrat politician is peddling easily-disproven lies about ICE. Unexpectedly!
The liar in this case is Deb Haaland, the Dem nominee for governor of New Mexico. (Great job, New Mexico Democrats!) She made a video of herself under the heading, “I will not stay silent while ICE terrorizes our communities.”
She says that, “About an hour ago…ICE came barreling into the parking lot [of the La Familia Medical Center] – endangering people as they were walking to their cars! – all to arrest the father of an 11 year old child.” She went on to decry how ICE just abandoned the 11-year-old after snatching up her father, but by then I was banging my head against my desk, and missed the rest of her stirring call to arms “to keep our community safe.”
This is all SO STUPID! Everyone has heard his story before, and knows exactly where it’s going. That one guy was a saintly Maryland father, and someone else was a young lady just working on her pilot’s license, and a third was a sweet abuela who just wanted to make tortillas and give them away to blind kids at a local orphanage.
Annnndddd…this loving father is one Edgar Chacon-Miranda, a pastor and taxpayer and a pillar of the community, who’s never done nobody no harm.
HA! I kid because I love.
Actually Edgar is an illegal, and a creepy, violent recidivist with, and I quote, “an extensive criminal history includ[ing] arrests for battery against a household member, criminal sexual penetration in the second degree, child abuse, and abandonment of a child.”
Because of course he is.
Good lord! How can this woman be so deluded as to think that anybody is going to fall for this? At this point, most people can’t listen past the first minute of some leftist activist describing some sainted immigrant as an innocent victim of ICE without immediately wondering how long his rap sheet is, and how many women or children he’s criminally penetrated.
Bah! If Deb Haaland wins election as governor, we should give New Mexico back to Old Mexico, justo ahora mismo
